My grandma has been in the hospital for almost a week now. She is in pain. They have done many tests but with no results. Below is an update email that my mom sent out. Please keep her in your prayers.
Hi All
Today was a better day. Mom’s leg pain was a lot less –almost gone. She still has pain in her neck/head area and toward evening began developing side pain again. She did not get her MRI last night, but maybe tomorrow. They have pretty much ruled out the Guillian-Barre Syndrome. But still have no clue what she has. They did find some inflammatory substance in her blood, and are treating that with prednisone (steroids). She got her first dose of that tonight, so we’ll see how she is tomorrow. She was able to move herself in bed and sit on the side of the bed and semi-stand with the walker by her bed and take a couple of side steps. Later she was able to get from her bed into a chair and sit up for a while. Rheumatologist has never seen anything like this with pain that migrates throughout the body. Supposedly they have their “best team” on her case, cuz they just don’t know what they are dealing with.
So please keep her in your prayers. The medicine men and women don’t know what is making her sick or what is making her better cuz they really aren’t doing anything but giving fluids and Tylenol and pain meds.

Today was a better day.
Still no firm diagnosis. Got the MRIs of her total back/spine done today. So now we are waiting for those results.
They have ruled out the Guilliam-Barre Syndrome, so have now started her on steroids (prednisone) to combat the inflammatory substance in her blood. The new tentative diagnosis is polymyalgia. So now she is in a drug induced diabetic state and has to check her glucose level throughout the day and take insulin shots. She does not like this!
She was able to walk today using a walker, so that is major progress. She just wants to go home! So guess that means she if feeling better. She is also eating better than she was Friday through Tuesday. Things are really looking up! With the prednisone, they will gradually reduce all other pain medication hoping that the prednisone will be enough. They will later, reduce her dosage and hopefully taper off of it altogether. Have to wait and see.
